Help Defy Mini Custom Notification Problem

Hi,
Wondering if anyone can help. I've been trying to sort custom Notification tones for my dads defy mini but to no avail.
The ring tone was easy done but I cannot get a custom sms/notification tone.
I've tried creating folders on the sd card (media/sounds/ring tones notifications alarms) as mentioned somewhere but it's not working.

Is there another way to do it?

First make sure they are working file types. One or two of my .wavs don't play (mind you they do show up on the list). have you tried .mid, .ogg, .wav?

Did you try setting text notification from within messaging app itself? Same can be done in alarms, calendar or other apps.
