Help defy restarting for no reason

mrh12

Newbie
i bought my defy about 2 weeks, and its been restarting byitself but not constantly and not for a specific reason which is annoying cause i cant tell if the problem is the phone or is just android. when i first got my defy it had 2.1 android i started to downoad some famous apps like task killer, shazam, led light light , etc.. then it just went crazy it would restart and it reached one point where all apps as soon as they open close again. so i updated to 2.2 now it seems ok but sometimes it just restarts or logg's off, it shows that my sim card is locked so i type pin and its ok some times it happenes when im playing songs, my question is this a normal thing for android system or could something be wrong with my phone and i don't want to return because i know the dealer Axiom aren't that good, they just format my phone and give it back

sorry for thelong post

I experienced similar problems on Defy Froyo2.2. Mainly observed it happening immediately after removing from being kept in pocket for quite long. I uninstalled all apps that i don't need and the problem has not repeated again for quite long.

There have been reports that some OEM batteries are just a tiny bit shorter than spec. This means the battery contacts jar loose from the phone contacts randomly causing the phone to restart. The "cure" from these posts, it to stick one single layer of electrical tape to the opposite end of the battery making it fit better. Might be worth a shot.

definitely worth a go. mine has restarted itself on 2.1 stock, 2.2 stock and now on 2.3.7 miui. has to be a hardware fault and the battery seems as good a place to start as any.

I fixed this by doing a factory reset and creating a new Motoblur account. It was a corrupt file in the Motoblur account cache which was causing the phone to crash.

Instructions here:

1) Begin on the home screen. Press the menu button and go to Settings.
2) Go to Privacy
3) Select Factory Data Reset.
4) Restart the phone. Don't use your old Motoblur account, it is corrupted and is causing the reboots. Create a new Motoblur account.
