Help delete history

Lurker
I have the Droid Razr Maxx with android 4.04.
Sometimes my friends or family want to check out my new phone and see its features, etc , and I don't want people to accidentally or intentionally see the sites that I have browsed.

So in the browser, under settings>privacy you can "clear history" or "clear cache" or even "clear all". That deletes things from the history listings, so that the bookmarks/history tab becomes empty. But it DOES NOT actually delete the history, because if you use "go back" in the browser, it will go back to previously visited sites. So obviously it still has them in its memory and one can go back to them all.

It sounds like this may be a missed software bug, but if anyone knows how I can ACTUALLY DELETE my browsing history, please let me know.

You might try an app called "1Tap Cleaner". It has a browser history cleaner although I've never used it to see if it does what you're talking about or not.

The way I clear my history is the same. In settings. Only make sure you have "save recent searches or web pages" unchecked in the browser settings. Also before you clear the cache and such, make sure you have closed all tabs and are in a fresh window.

1- I installed 1Tap Cleaner. It DID NOT do it. It clears the history just as the browser settings can clear the history. You can still see previously visited sites using "go back".

2- There is no "save recent searches or web pages" checkbox in the browser settings. Perhaps you have a different version. I have 4.04.

3- The suggestion to close tabs and get a fresh window before deleting history and cache does not work either. I do that anyways.

Still looking for any tips/advice on how to ACTUALLY DELETE my browsing history.

settings> privacy> factory data reset. deletes everything, including your web history.

but seriously - browser, menu, settings, privacy & security, clear all.

if that doesnt work, then browser, menu, settings, advanced, reset to default. yeah you lose all your browser stuff, but what's your alternative?

Must be too much porn or something? Idk why else you would be so worried about it ahhaha.

But seriously. Idk your problem. Any time I clear it its gone. Just stop hitting the back button or go into manage apps and force stop the browser that way it completely stops it and when you open it back everything should be gone

Ok, thanks.
Manage apps>force stop does NOT delete the history.
Manage apps>clear cache does NOT delete the history
Manage apps>clear data DOES delete the history. Unfortunately it deletes the bookmarks as well. So this is the solution for now, until a better solution is suggested, or the issue is fixed in a newer version of the software.

Regarding the setting that deletes the bookmarks, couldn't you export the bookmarks so at least you could reimport them after the reset?

Did you press option "Clear All"? When everything is deleted, the individual clearing options will disappear. I checked my history tab and it works. Check your settings.

To remove individual, search history entries, go here: https://history.google.com/history/

You may need to use the desktop User Agent (UA) for this to work or to filter specific search items. If you cannot switch to desktop UA, do a search for 'delete history' (or something like that, I forget) from the page's search text-box.

If you hit settings from this page, you can delete ALL of Google's search history. Be aware, this is not the same as browser history, Google keeps this information in the cloud. This way, it's the same on all computers.

Another possible solution is this...Just use Chrome to do your "unsafe" browsing. the Chrome browser has Incognito Mode. Incognito Mode doesn't save any of your browsing history while active, so you don't have to worry about anyone stumbling upon your unsavory sites.

unless i'm not clear as to what you're asking....Dolphin Browser has the feature you are seeking.

you can set it up to clear browsing history, cookies, and cache, automatically each time you exit the browser. just go to settings/exit settings ....then select what you want ("clear history", "clear cookies", etc) to have done each time you close the program. seems to work fine on my phone. after i exit the browser, then return, no previous history is seen.

i think they just need to bite the bullet and add multi-user support to phones, too. then you log in as one user, and it's all clean and pretty for whoever borrows your phone. then you log in as yourself and all your depravity is still there for you to use as you see fit.

oh, and kids, if you have kids you only want with certain permissions. yeah, that's the real reason. not the dirty stuff....
