Deleted messages

Hi all first post and I hope someone can help, I had a software update 10 days ago and it deleted all of my messages. I can go a couple of days and they just delete themselves again. Is there a reason for this?

Are we talking email messages or text messages?

Do you know what the update was for? Was it the message app or Android OS?

Neither of those things should have deleted any messages, unless you also performed a factory reset.

You can set limits on the number of messages in a conversation so the oldest get deleted as the newest come in, but that wouldn't delete all of them. A little more information would be helpful.

Hi it is for text messages. The update was as far as I know for android. I know there is a limit but I was nowhere near that. As for the factory reset this was not done and it has happened again today without an update

Which message app are you using? the stock Samsung app?

Try using Android messages. They both access the same message database, so maybe your messages aren't deleted after all, but the stock app can't connect for some reason.

Check your message app's settings, just to make sure it doesn't have a setting to only keep messages for a certain time.

(That's not an option I've seen elsewhere, but that seems to be the behaviour you are describing, and a Samsung update can update the built-in apps as well as the OS itself so it's not completely inconceivable).
