Apps Deleting an SMS as soon as it's received

I know it may sound malicious, but trust me, it's not. It's for personal use only. The reason is, I get SMS updates from ESPN during every Phillies game, but I'd like to "turn them off" while I'm watching the game, so I only get updates when I'm away from the TV.

I was just going to have a Broadcast Receiver that fires when a text is received, then I check the message contents to see if it's from ESPN. If it is, I delete it. I have no idea how to delete the message though. Any suggestions? Or better approaches I could take?

You could just use handcent and ignore them for the duration of the game then remove them from the ignore list after it's over.

I've tried handcent and I cant really say I'm a fan. Is there any way to do it programmatically?
