Running a Desire with a Micro SD 16G. I bought the most expensive fastest card I could but the best I can get out of it is an average speed of 1.2MB/s

I haven't seen speeds like that since the days of floppy drives.

It peaks at 3.5MB/s but those are just occasional peaks.

Why Micro SD anyway?

Is there a faster Micro available?

What class is your SD card? If you're getting occassional speeds of 3.5mb/s then you probably have a class 4, which is rated at 4mb/s. This is only the top speed though, in reality they usually perform much less.

Also, did you buy it from a source you know you can trust? I.E. not ebay

There's a whole world of counterfeit SD cards, some look identical to the real thing, but they are made with crappy hardware and last a fraction of the time of a real SD card, not to mention rarely perform at the speeds they say on the box.
