Desire HD email wont open pics

I'm new to android I can email pics from my DHD but when i receive jpeg etc it won't open them . Is this the norm or does something need changing / downloading
Thanks for any help
 
I've managed to open single pics on the gmail app and save them forward them etc . When I'm sent multiple pics in slideshows I can only open them on the browser like you suggested and download them to quick office to view only can't move or save them from there but at least I can find them
