desperately need android advice

Hi, I am very new to this forum and have little android knowledge so please forgive me.
I have a four year old MX tv android box which has Kodi and Filmon.apps loaded. I simply cant get Kodi app to operate due to my complete lack of IT knowledge.. I therefore pay €149.00 per year for Filmon which frequently buffers and picture quality is poor.
Being a complete novice I simply want a plug and go that will give me if possible free uk tv channels.
I have looked at the Fire Sticks and a few mid price range android boxes but still have no idea which is best for my requirements. I don't live in the uk so am wanting to be able to watch uk tv without having to use a vpn.
Please tell me if there is such a creature as that which I seek. Thanks Chris

Hi there, Chris, and welcome to Android Forums!

Wow, 149 Euros a year for a streaming service? That's a steep rate for any streaming service... but the poor picture quality and constant buffering may not be their fault. Your stream will only be as good as the bandwidth of your internet access. Unless you have broadband internet and a really good wifi router, that may be your bottleneck. Imagine pouring gallons of water down a drain that's only 5 cm wide and you'll get the idea. Plenty of water on this side... but just dribbles on the other side.

However, I read the rest of your post as a request for information on how to get paid channels in the UK for free. This is piracy, and we don't discuss that here except to say "it's wrong, it's theft, don't do it, you'll get caught and fined". If I misunderstood and you are asking for a way to get over-the-air broadcast channels streamed to your device, then someone in the UK may be able to help.

It's great to have you here!

I know you'll definitely need a VPN or proxy that gives you a UK IP address in order to watch TV from the UK, like BBC IPlayer, ITV, Sky Go, etc.
I use ExpressVPN myself as I'm usually in China and still able to see my Eastenders, Corrie, Holby City, etc.

Hi guys, Many thanks for the info. Sorry Chief my thread was not clear. By "free" I am thinking of an app like Kodi which I understand is legal. Is the way forward for me to purchase a fire stick with kodi already installed or perhaps an android box pre-installed with kodi. All I want is something very simple [ a bit like me really ] that I can plug in and watch. Advice would be very welcome. Please to be a member of this forum

Just to be up front, note that yes Kodi is free and legal. It's Open Source software licensed under GPLv2. What creates controversy are the plugins you add to Kodi. Most just enhance its feature set adding the ability to watch a wider range of streaming content, but some can and do violate all kinds of legal restrictions allowing one unlimited access to services the rest of us actually pay for.

Hi Svim, Many thanks I didn't realise the implications. As I am not tech minded I just want to watch live uk tv channels such as bbc, itv etc. Will I get these with kodi and remain legal. thanks chris

Kodi isn't the real issue, this is 'region locked' content that requires work-around steps (i.e. a VPN, or manipulating your DNS) to actually access it, and no, what you're asking does not allow you to remain legal no matter what software program you want to use. In order to watch live UK TV content legally you need to be a UK resident and have paid the UK TV licensing fee:

Oh no, I don't have a TV license and I watch BBC. Will I go to prison?
