I can't get the adb shell to recognize my phone. I'v reinstalled the drivers and still nothing. i'm trying to avoid another factory reset if at all possible.
Any ideas.

I think you are using windows but not sure. For windows it seems not all drivers are equal. More details on what you are using/doing would help.
