Root Device not recognized

Everything was going so well following directions to root my phone and get 2.1 up and running on it. I got as far as flash_image recovery and the walked through and unplugged the phone from the computer. Now when I try to connect again it tells me USB device not recognized. The phone still works; I just can't go any further because the computer doesn't know what my phone is anymore. What did I do and can I fix it?
 
Try a different USB port on the computer or USB Cable.

If you already flashed the recovery (verify by booting into Recovery) then all you need to do now is place the zip files on the SDCard and WIPE ALL and INSTALL ZIP via Recovery.
