Help Device storage issue

When I go to settings >> storage >> device storage and under used space it shows "the amount of storage space currently being used is 46.52GB ".. I'm wondering coz the device has only 8.00 GB of internal storage and why does the used space shows an incorrect information..

Other storage calculations are showing up fine..

Can some one help me in getting this sorted out..

P.S. My phone is a Galaxy Grand and its updated to 4.2.2 and no more updates are available for the phone..

Kindly help..

Im not sure this is happening after update, but I just noticed it now..

I have not changed any SD card, its the same from the day one of the device...

Thanks

Wow. That's crazy all the way around.

I can't believe you're using nearly 4 GB for system when it's spec'd for 3 or that you used another 14 GB since you started this thread. :(

Check out "SanDisk Memory Zone"

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sandisk.mz

That will give something usually accurate to compare with what we're seeing.

I guess I'd think that either your phone software has a bug, caches are tangled under the hood, or some weird file is confusing the software something fierce.

Did you store any movies over 2 GB on your phone?

I guess the memory allotted for the system is 4 GB so the system memory shows up fine and other calculations are also fine.. Its only with the used space that shows up this weird number...

BTW I dont have any movies stored and I dont download all apps bcoz im a security guy and a bit concerned about the data being shared out by other apps..

So my phone has very minimal and trusted apps and quite a few music files and image files..

I dont know what next...

I asked about a large file thinking that maybe an addressing issue cropped up - movie came to mind for anything over 2 GB.

Ok - I have seen several cases of a bad mp3 file throwing off storage statistics on an SD card.

Never on internal storage.

But maybe there's a first time for everything.

When it happens on an SD card the victim can't back all the music files to a PC - it hangs.

I guess you could try to backup your media files to your pc and if it hangs, then you'll know this is being caused by a corrupted file.

hmmm got u.. lemme try to backup and check how it goes.

BTW I checked the memory in a few apps that i have installed and they show up the right memory calculations for both internal and SD Card.. Only on the internal settings it shows up this huge number.. May be its really a OS bug and nothing to do with any files...

But anyways ill try to backup the data and check and which will take a couple of days since im out for this weekend.. Ill keep this post updated once I check it up..

Thank you...
