Help Dialer Useless?

Hi there,

I am a iphone convert (iphone 3 (not even 3G!)). I am having trouble with the dialer in my S5.

My contacts all have multiple phones, home, office, mobile, etc. How do I tell my phone to show me which phone somebody called me on? All I can get it to do is to give me the number 0207 1234 567 not the device they called me on. Everything is setup in contacts, with Fred Blogs having a separate number for his Mobile, Home or Work all within the same contact but my phone doesn't seem to make use of the fact that it knows they are separate devices.

My iphone used to be much simpler any tell me which device people were calling me on automatically.

Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

David

Hi

Normally the number used by a caller appears in the call logs (button at the top of the dialer) after the call and on screen when the phone is ringing. It would say unsaved if the number is not in your contacts.

That generic London number appearing suggests that either your carrier has something set up wrong or you have an app installed messing with your dialer.

I create a contact for each phone they have

Joe cell
Joe house
Joe office

can't be any simpler than that.

Fair enough, I will split apart all my contacts. It just seems a little silly to have the ability to put multiple numbers under one contact but not have the phone make use of the information

Thank :-)

I do not dispute that at all, but getting the extra numbers to display properly is a PITA and I gave up on it 10 years ago. It has not improved since then.

Do you (or anybody else) know why it is not changed? It would seem pretty easy to do. Who remembers actual telephone numbers nowadays?
