Did anybody download the new Google keyboard?

I have been busy all day and just now saw it was available. I hated the galaxy keyboard, hated swift key, and all the other downloadable keyboards. I downloaded the Google one which is free by the way and I have to say it has saved my S3. I absolutely hated texting after the S3 had to ditch auto correct. This Google keyboard is great and it does have auto correct and next word prediction. It makes the phone feel stock which is nice, and it just looks really clean. Download it if you're still looking for a better keyboard!

Oh, thanks for the tip! After the Samsung stock 4.1.2 keyboard predictive text delete fiasco, (that's a mouthful!) and after trying Perfect Keyboard and Swift Key (paid for both - sale prices) I landed on Swype and haven't look back.

But, I'll give this one a look see.

I've been trying it out since yesterday. I was using Swype as my portrait keyboard before. I decided to give the Google keyboard a try. So far, I am liking Swype a bit more. I want to give this keyboard at least a few days use before making my final decision.

For my landscape keyboard, I am sticking with SwiftKey. I like the split keyboard that SwiftKey has. If the Google keyboard has a split layout in landscape orientation, I would consider it.

May I ask how you hate Swiftkey and love this keyboard? Haha. I tried this and went back to Swiftkey. I have tried everything out there, and I type the fastest with Swiftkey.

I came from HTC. Samsung's keyboard was the biggest downgrade. Tried swiftkey and was satisfied, but felt it could be much better. Google keyboard takes the cake. Best keyboard i've used.

I would like to hear reasons why, other then the fact that people are blinded because its "Google stock". Unless you are using the swipe style, I have a hard time seeing whats so good about this keyboard. I used it for an entire day.

Swiftkey voice command was intermittent at best (on my GS3). The google keyboard works seamlessly for me..

Nothing like exiting an application just so I can go back into it just to make the voice command work (happened more times than I can count on swiftkey).

I had swiftkey basically because I couldn't find anything better. I finally have found the keyboard I'm looking for! Swiftkey's flow never worked very well for me. I found myself correcting 3-4 words in every sentence I used Flow with. But the gesture typing is near perfect! And when i want to type, that works SOOOO much better than Swiftkeys as well. And they voice command works better I think. I can actually use it with my windows down in my car.

It's just an all around better keyboard IMO.

Sure. The keypress sound is terrible. The buttons look terrible no matter how it was configured. The placement of a lot of the buttons or icons was moved which makes no sense. The numbers aren't arranged in the top bar like a regular keyboard. I hated swift key. I bought it and then immediately got a refund. I thought it sucked. Plus, why pay for a keyboard? The Google keyboard works perfectly for me and it actually looks good. It has all the buttons where they should be as well.

I just tried the Google keyboard but switched back to the Samsung one halfway through typing a text message. Didn't like the Google one at all

Oh thanks .. I love google keyboard and always hated the S3 one, especially since I used the google one on my N7 daily and always wondered how I can get the N7 onto my S3 ..

Yay .. happy me :D

I have been using Swype for a while now and love it, have been using the Google Keyboard since they made it available, very nice and smooth, no issues or complaints so far.

Tried and ditched it already. I already used this keyboard on AOSP roms, it doesn't work out well with me. In fact, I always need to go back to correct words.

E.g. on SwiftKey things like "wgatareyoudoibng" usually get correct to "what are you doing", with Google Keyboard (and many others) it remains "wgatareyoudoibng".

IMHO, SwiftKey's prediction and correction engine is the best, but the app itself has issues sometimes. One thing I hate is how slow it is to cancel something, compared to the stock Samsung keyboard.

So far it's nice but as we all know that can change really quick with these keyboards. I do like the floating word. It's like a preview of the intended word and it floats right above where you are finished swiping your word. Convenient location. I'll continue to use it and see how reliable it is.

So weird how many people don't like it and prefer the stock. What annoys me most with the stock one is that it doesn't correct automatically and I 'miss-swipe' a lot more on stock than I do on Google. But each to their own.. That's what choice is all about ey ;)

After tweaking with the settings and using it for a couple of days, I am beginning to warm up to the Google Keyboard. It has closed the gap on Swype. It took some time to get used to how to access the punctuation and symbols. The gesture typing is about as good as Swype. The auto-correct/text predition is a hybrid of Swype and SwiftKey.

"bought it and then immediately got a refund" really doesn't give you much credibility. I tried the Google keyboard for a couple days to test run it. Swiftkey has a free version.

Most of what you said just sound like little annoying details you hate because its "different" from what you are really used to.

Swiftkey is tailored to you. It takes time to change some settings and get everything just right. Once you do, it truly is amazing. Swiftkey allows me to text faster then anything I have used. Plus, I have yet to find anything with better predictions.

Of all the keyboards I have tried over the years, I was quite impressed with the Google keyboard however. Its probably a very good option at this point if I were to change.

I don't see why it isn't credible. I'll be more precise. I had the flow beta and used it for a few weeks and then bought the full version and could not get over the things that I didn't like about it. Sure it predicted my words. However I hated the location of many of the symbols and especially the numbers. I ended up going back to the S3 keyboard because it is more like an actual keyboard that I am used to. The immediate refund was because if you wait longer than 15 minutes then you don't get your money back. I was only going to pay for the keyboard if I was able to rearrange the button locations. So overall I ditched it and I'm glad the Google keyboard came out.

I love The Google keyboard. It works very well FOR ME. I can understand that everyone will not like it. Everyone is different and some people need to chill out lol.......We are talking about keyboard apps, not your first born lol.

With every new keyboard, it will take some time to get used to it. I used both SwiftKey and Swype for a few months. Both have symbols in different locations. The Google keyboard has symbols in locations different than the other two and it also is taking me some time to get used to it.

I find that with every keyboard I have ever used, whether physical or virtual, it takes at least a week and most likely around 3 weeks to really get use to. The amount of time depends on how different it is than the other ones I am used to. I have to commit to using it consistently for that period of time before I feel I can give a meaningful evaluation of a keyboard.
