Did AT&T cheat me out of my unlimited plan?

I just upgraded to a Motorla Atrix and they told me that in order to switch from an iPhone to the Atrix I had to drop the plan.

Anybody else experience this?

Wow that sucks. The Atrix is 4G right? In that case, because they're switching you from a 3G to a 4G plan, they can switch you to a tiered plan. It sucks, that's why I hate AT&T.

Sounds like it. If you have a plan that the provider is no longer "selling", and you "have to" change plans, then you no longer have the features you had on your old plan.

My experience, T-Mobile had the MyFaves plans where each line could have 5 "Faves" and call them unlimitedly (if that's a word :P) They are doing away with the MyFaves so if I were to change my plan I would no longer be able to have unlimited minutes with those 5 numbers anymore.

That's bogus. If you're already on an unlimited smartphone plan, you don't have to change to a tiered plan. Your iphone plan was grandfathered in.

Call them back ASAP and have them add u on to the unlimited personal smartphone plan for $30. Lots of people have been duped like this and had to call AT&T to correct it.

I don't know that's necessarily true since OP is going from an Unlimited 3G Plan to a 4G Plan. If the plan specified that it was for 3G data then there's not much that can be done.

Sorry to somewhat hijack, but... there is a such thing as this still???

It's true, you just can't go from an unlimited dumb phone plan to an unlimited smart-phone plan.

Furthermore, what AT&T is touting as 4g doesn't even exist. All their 4G phones are running off HSDPA with HSUPA disabled. Until they get all the backhaul done, we won't see anything near 4G type speeds and then it still won't be true 4G (more like 3.5G). At least not until they roll out LTE which might be years from now. Their 4G is just marketing hype and they know it.

Yea, they just don't tell you. Although It only works in their system if you already had an unlimited smartphone plan

I went from unlimited 3G plan to unlimited "4g" plan no problem. And my husband is going from an iphone to something else and they told him he gets to keep his unltd plan as well even though it's not an iphone he is going to

Hrmmm...well OP I think it's time for you to call customer service. I figured the 3G to 4G would've made a difference but since others were able to do so you should argue for it.

It is true...I did it for myself on feb 23...and for my brother last week...we both switched from unlimited iphone data to unlimited hspa+ data...both for $30! Call customer service asap!!!

I had this happen to me the other day when i purchase a captivate at bestbuy they dropped my texting my internet and because i had 30 days i was able to retrieve my unlimited data

I ran into something similar and CS said that the original "iPhone" data plans were technically not the same as a "smart phone" data plan in their system... But if you talk to the right person they should be able to override it. I remember something like this when my wife got her first iPhone. The normal data plan wouldn't work with it, we had to get the iPhone specific data plan. Same for family data usage back then... Not sure about now though.

You do know that AT&T bought out t-mobile? Truthfully, I think the tiered plan sucks but actually, in the last two months I have only used a small fraction of the 2 gb I signed up for and that' given I've got weather apps updating, etc.
