Google Location gets AGPS get from Google Servers, and similar for Verizon.
Stand alone uses only the GPS chip only on the phone.
Rotation orientation is dependent on your phone's hardware I'd think, that is if I am understanding you correctly that you mean rotating from portrait to landscape. For example, a Galaxy S2 would rotate the map app to landscape or portrait faster than a Galaxy Ace because the CPU of the S2 is faster.
