Different serial number

Hi guys, viewing the phone information with *#06# I get IMEI and also serial number, the strange thing is that going to view the serial number from the settings, it is different, can anyone explain why? Am I missing something?

The ESN should be the same. Which they are on my Huawei and Samsung phones. Is your phone or tablet rooted and modifiied?

My s21 gives 2 IMEI (dual SIM) and a serial number, all of which are the same from both sources.

It also gives an EID which you have to look slightly deeper in the settings to find, but which is also consistent between the two.

I can't think of a good reason why they might differ (whether a "fake" phone might go to the length of presenting a genuine manufacturer serial number I don't know, but since the IMEI would be a giveaway to anyone who checked such things I doubt it).

@mcx88 What phone or tablet have you got there, make and model, and where did you buy it?

FWIW my Samsung Note20 and Huawei Mate10 also shows the MEID, when doing *#06# from the phone app. With MEID been specific to CDMA capable devices. But the actual numbers, does match with what's in the Settings.

What phone model do you have? Did you buy it from a bigger, established phone retailer/seller (i.e. direct from manufacturer, or Amazon, or a cellular service, etc.) or from a more local source (i.e. nearby store, or a friend or acquaintance, etc.)?
