Dinc vs. X ?

I don't like second guessing myself, but you can only do so much research without hands on experience.

I just finally ordered the Incredible and wanting to ensure I made the right choice. It will be my first Droid, I'm still using a Razr ! lol Actually I had to go back to the Razr after running over my Q.

Anyway..., since I still have time to change my mind (supposed to ship 8-3), I'm curious your experiences and opinions which is better and why.

One important thing for me is reception, and I'm a little concerned what I'm hearing about this issue.

I just returned from SE Alaska fishing trip and the V Razr had reception when my friends iPhone did not - and I was roaming on AT&T !!

Will the Dinc be worse reception you think ?
 
I doubt you'd find any real difference in reception between the Incredible and the X. The biggest issue I think is that the Sense UI phones tend to show less bars than other phones. If you go deeper and actually check out the signal strength in dBm, it's actually the same as other phones, it's just the bar display that's off. You may see 1 bar on the Inc and 3 bars on the X, but when you check them both using the dBm numbers they'll be in the same range.
 
I think I know what you mean but I'll have to look into it.

Are the droids less receptive than say a regular upper scale flip phone ?

Also still curious which you guys consider the better model, X or Dinc ?
 
X or DInc are going to be very similar as far as sepcs go. The major difference between the two, aside from the obvious size difference, is the DInc uses HTC Sense and the X is running a tweaked version of Moto's "Blur"

Reception wise like another user stated, they should both be very close to eachother when actually looking at the dBm signal strength
 
I was waiting and waiting for the Incredible, but I decided to get a Droid X on release day....best decision ever! The size of the X is most important for me.
 
Although its my first smartphone I have to say that this X is sweet. I didn't look at it in person before fedex delivered it and I have to say that I thought it would be bigger based on all the complaining people do about the size. I can't really see myself using anything smaller really. It doesn't take up much more room in my pocket than my zune 80 that I've carried around for months. Saw the dinc in best buy the over day and it looked ridiculously tiny. Could never type on one of those while typing on this is a breeze. Also, the battery has treated me quite a bit better than I expected as I can easily get throub an entire day of music, poscasts, browsing, and streaming.
 
I have an Droid Incredible and I love, love, love it. I've never had a dropped call yet (I'm on Verizon). Reception is clear and working great.

I noticed yesterday that my Facebook, Twitter, and weather apps aren't updating, but have learned that HTC is already working on the problem (learned that here in another thread).

I'm pleased with my Droid Incredible.
 
I just returned my incredible last week and ordered a X. Coming from a Iphone on AT&T reception is my top priority. My Incredible had very poor reception at my house and my work, looking at the out of service % it would be around 50% at work and about 10% at home.

I took my Incredible down to the local Verizon store and placed it next to a X, the X was showing a signal of -74 and holding steady...the Inc was bouncing in the -80's and -90's back and forth. I have a friend that has a Inc and he hasn't had the same issues. I started doing some reading in the different forums and it seams a lot of people are having the weak reception issues with the Inc, but not everyone.

I just returned from vacation and while we were gone I had stopped at a couple other stores and checked their Inc's to the X's, one store the X was better like my first test and the second store it was just as good and nice and steady. Seem's it may vary phone to phone on the Inc?

Anyways I'm waiting for my X to arrive now, it's bigger but not that big in person and I'm hyped about the bigger screen.

Thanks. That reception would vary phone to phone is a little disturbing. I don't care so much, or at least I think I don't care about the larger screen size, as I would rather have the easier pocketability. But with either of these phones reception (and clarity), and I suppose app speed are the bigger issues for me.

A friend just got the Inc a couple weeks ago and so far he's pretty jazzed. Mine is supposed to ship on 8-3. I guess you can can return them if dissatisfied ?

Maybe we should do a V Poll - Dinc or X, but I like hearing the comments and opinions too.

The phones use different chipsets, so there's going to be some variation. I doubt either phone would drop more calls or have more reception issues.

A lot of folks aren't happy with the software on the X. I've read a lot of reports saying that it can get laggy, and that Motorola put a lot of pre-installed apps that you cannot remove.

That said, HTC does the same thing on the Inc. The only difference being that Sense doesn't seam to be as disliked as all the BLUR stuff Moto puts on their phones.

To your final point, yeah, you can use the phone for 30 days and send it back if you'd like.

This is really a non issue, even if you don't want to root your phone. Having had the Incredible before the X I would agree that the HTC Sense is a lot nicer enviroment than the X. But you can install Launcher Pro on your X and it's even better than the HTC Sense! You can even load a app like beautiful widgets that will give you the same clock etc if you like that. Lots of great options with this app.

If your comparing stock phones with no extra apps etc then the Incredible is a nicer experience...but who is going to buy one of these phones and not install extra stuff? A couple free apps and the X is super sweet!

Everyone's needs are different. I have been using Launcher Pro (and now Plus) for awhile now, and it was the first thing I did when I rooted my Eris.

My wife, on the other hand, just wants to use the phone as is. She prefers Sense to everything else. Most users, I would imagine, fall into this category. Most simply want to buy a phone, install a few apps and use it.

This is the reason I didn't get it. And the reason I returned the EVO. The Incredible is just that, Incredible! I am very happy with it.

I don't own either the X or the incredible, but I think everyone is right in that they're going to be roughly the same unless you get a broken unit.

You have to keep in mind that signal is a finicky thing - the place you're standing, the way you're standing (are you in line of sight of the towers? Standing between your phone and its contact point?), and even right down to the number of objects around you and the geography will all drastically affect how much signal you're going to get.

My point is that I would get a phone based on the physical features you want, and trust that the network you're on will be about the same across all the models and handsets.

I was considering jumping ship from T-Mobile ($200 disconnect fee) to get on Verizon's network and buy a Droid X until I had the chance to play with one. I can't type on on-screen keyboards to save my life, and even with the X's monster 4.3 inch screen I couldn't hit the letters reliably. It has a lot to do with the fact that it's software based and not hardware based, but also a little bit with the layout.

The second thing I found was that the camera didn't auto focus, at all. I was trying to take pictures of the display text below it just to see how it handled it and it was horrible. It didn't even try to focus, and there is no manual adjustment. I put it down after that, knowing that I would never own one for that reason.

I have to say though, the HDMI output on the X is pretty sweet considering that you can hook it up to a TV. You'd basically have a little mobile movie player that you can make big any time you want.
