Help Dis-functional back button and menu button

The back button, and menu buttons have stopped working. This Phone is only one year old and is housed in a secured protection case and properly handled. For all the money that this device cost, it has been sent to the manufacture for sound and network issues. What a piece of junk. Seems to be a device issue, but could a programming conflict keep the device from performing the function. Darn shame. Money wasted. Do you have a resolution for the device issue?

Well if you want to eliminate software as a possibility you could do a factory reset. If they still don't work after that it probably is a hardware failure.

If they perform any function in the bootloader or recovery that would be another way of testing: a software problem would be an android software problem, and would not affect the phone when not running android (e.g. when in the bootloader). However, it's quite possible that they aren't used in those modes anyway (I don't know LG's, but that would be my guess).
