I am looking for any advice or ideas on how it would be possible to prevent my phone from displaying the lock screen while driving. I know this will compromise security but it will add a level of safety to my daily comute.

I know it is possible to prevent lock screen as the navigation screen will prevent this from happening but I am looking for something that will detect when I am driving and prevent the lock screen.

Thanks guys I really appreciate the help!

Depends on what phone you have. I just turn on Driving Mode on mine. Or you can use an NFC tag if your phone is NFC supported.

If your phone is rooted and running KitKat, there is an Xposed module, No Lock Home, that could be adapted to your purpose. Although it's primary purpose is to disable the lockscreen when within range of a known wifi (e.g., home/work), it can also be enabled for specific cell towers or Bluetooth devices. If you have a Bluetooth headset or BT-equipped car, you could simply pair it with your phone while driving and the lockscreen would be disabled for the duration.
