Help Disable Panic Mode

Lurker
Hi, My phone is pocket dialling 112 every hour or so. The police has been calling back immediately asking if I am in trouble. This seems to be because under settings-> advanced features there is a panic mode which is enabled by default and has no option to disable. This dials 112 immediately after pressing the power button 3 times. Can someone help? this is very annoying.
Phone: Samsung J7
Android: 7.1

I don't know this phone, and mine has no such feature, so I doubt I can help with the setting itself. Though it does seem strange to have a "setting" that cannot be changed: what's the point of putting something in the advanced settings if you can't interact with it? So are you certain it's not changeable, e.g. you've tried tapping the text to see whether it opens up further options?

A work-around would be to buy a case that surrounds the power button so that it's harder to press the button in the pocket. But it seems just too weird if there's no way to disable it.

(I'd suggest checking the developer options, which is normally a hidden menu, but this isn't the sort of thing that you'd put in there. If you want to look, find the software version information in your phone's settings and tap repeatedly on the "build number". That will unlock the developer options menu - a stupid way of doing things, but that's Google).

Thanks @Hadron Activated developer mode but that doesn't change anything. It is weird but I have tried and there seems to be no option to disable it. Screenshots of this are here 1)

Can anyone help?

FWIW I've never seen "Panic Mode" on a Samsung or any other phone I've had. Just about all phones have a way of dialling emergency numbers when locked, but that's from the screen.

I could be a US device only feature, especially with "112" dialling? The fact it can be activated just by pressing the power-button three times, I'm not suprised that it activates in a pocket. Seems a bit stupid that there is no apparent way to disable it. Is it a carrier variant J7 you've got there, and if so which carrier?

112 is the standard European emergency number, and part of the GSM standard. So there's nothing American about that. Though most of the references I mention below come from US carriers.

I've not found anything about "panic mode", but several references to an "emergency mode" on some Samsung devices which sounds similar. This link has a suggestion for disabling it, so might be worth a look: https://www.samsung.com/uk/support/...sable-emergency-mode-on-my-samsung-galaxy-s5/
