Discovered and solved my battery drain problem, read more it might apply to you...

Well after weeks of trying to figure out what was causing my battery drain, I have finally figured it out.

Lightflow was the major cause, as the number of wakelocks on my phone was over 10,000. I actually had been using gsam for the past 2 weeks but just simply overlooked all the tabs that it offered. Although android system was the culprit for battery percentage, the hidden app was in fat discovered under the "num times held awake" through the gsam app.

When i uninstalled lightflow, i went from 40% "android system" down to 10%. Getting much better battery life now. I am at 38% now off a 12 hour day, but only about 50 minutes of screen time. Thats actually much better than before, so for now I am happy, and of course I can always buy a spare battery.

This is a relief but a dissapointment at the same time. I really enjoyed the LED customization and now I cannot use it. I emailed the developer and hope they have a fix for this. If anyone else is using another LED custom app that isn't harsh on the battery, let me know please!

Hope this helps anyone.

If you read the reviews of light flow for the gs3 they all mention it draining the battery. Until the developer gets off of vacation and fixes it he won't be getting my moneys.

at the time (july) the only complaints were the colors not matching up. nothing about battery drain, so i went ahead and bought it (i am a sucker for a colorful LED notification light on my phone).

he emailed me back and is aware of the issue. well see how long this takes.

It helps others when you post the carrier you are on, so we know if you are using the int'l or n american version.
Also, the only stable version of lightflow for the n american version was 3.0.5; anything before or after this version does not work. And the dev got back off holiday weeks ago and hasn't updated his blog since the 12th. Figures maybe he gave up?

Anyway, I am on at&t version of the S3 and I do not have any issues with lightflow. I am also rooted, but running the stock rom. I will get 4 to 4.5 hours of onscreen time with my battery. That is extremely heavy use too. If I barely use the phone, I will get 30 to 36 hours. My recommendation is to find the 3.0.5 version of the lightflow apk.

No reason using lightflow here. I think the wakelock is not releasing only if you are using blinking. If you just have the steady light, it's better.

Also, your teaser title doesn't help anyone. Should put lightflow in the title.

Hi,
I, too, have had the light flow battery drain issue.
When I uninstall, it goes back to good battery usage.
With Light Flow enabled I get 55 to 61% battery usage
when running. I have also e-mailed the author. No response
as of yet. Stock S3 on ATT. Also hope it is solved, great program.

Can you tell me how you got to this info? I don't have Lightflow installed, but I would like to see which apps could be draining my battery.

thanks for the replies. sorry if my post was "misleading" without including the "lightflow" name in the title.

i have the US version through at&t 16gb.

i did update it, so i guess that just made matters worse.

to whoever asked how i found out about this issue... use gsam battery app. go to "app usage", then at the top theres a drop down menu, select "view num times waking device". Lightflow had over 10,000 wakelocks. the next app down had about 100. so the difference was asburd.

the developer got back to me within a day of emailing him. he says that this is main concern right now. he suggested that I uncheck the "s3" mode, but it would have the led light shine green the entire time and the assigned colors would not match up (but lightflow's website offers a translation sheet to get your desired colors).
