Display Problem Outdoors

This could be a deal-killer for me, since I am outdoors a lot.

Droid Life review: "But really, the biggest issue here are the HTC 10’s struggles in sunlight. Like the G5, this LCD panel is not good at all in outdoor settings where the sun is involved. I once again took the HTC 10 out for a photoshoot with the S7 in-hand and found that I was squinting and tilting to see the 10, yet the S7 was as clear as ever."

I'm going to wait and see for myself if the HTC 10 display is adequate outdoors. In a recent phoneArena Q&A that question was asked:

Q. How's the display legibility in daylight against S7 or G5...?
A. The display legibility is adequate. The S7 can go higher though, but that does impact your battery.

Hmm, "adequate" may not cut it, so personal hands on, if the store will let me walk outside, will be the determining factor.

I would also like to see an improvement for polarized sunglasses. The m8 cannot be viewed in portrait orientation while wearing polarized lenses. At least my m8 cannot. I'm looking forward to an in hand interview with the 10.

I just noticed the following in the review from TrustedReviews:
"What it does offer over its rivals is improved brightness. Well, in certain situations. In regular use, the maximum brightness on the HTC 10 is much brighter than that of the LG G5 and Galaxy S7, though it doesn’t feature the trick used by those two where it can boost brightness even more in direct sunlight. Still, the HTC 10 is perfectly usable outdoors."

Here's some bad news for those who use polarized sunglasses. According to a recent Guardian review:

"The screen has good viewing angles and is easy to view outdoors, but not if you’re wearing polarising sunglasses, which blank out the screen in one orientation or the other."

Maybe I'm out of the loop, but who expects LCD screens to look right with polarized sunglasses?

Not I'm asking as someone who has won glasses for 30 years, and went 29 years without sunglasses. Finally said screw it and got prescription sunglasses. Yes, screens (all of them, including car infotainment screen) look weird. I expect nothing else...

Strange... I've read that polarizing sunglasses blank out the screen in one orientation or the other. I have prescription polarizing sunglasses and they don't blank out the screen in either portrait or landscape orientations.

There are two different panels. Both seem good from users' comments, but it seems they have different polarisation characteristics.

Does yours blank out at an intermediate angle by any chance?

I just put on my polarized sunglasses, cranked the brightness on my HTC 10 to 100%, and went out into the bright sunlight. In portrait orientation I have to look at the screen straight on; if I angle the phone the screen blanks out. In landscape orientation, however, I can angle the phone a reasonable amount before I lose screen visibility
