DLC is getting out of hand!

So, I was at Gamestop a couple weeks ago, before Assassins Creed 3 came out, and there, next to the pre order boxes, were boxes for downloadable content for AC3. I don't know why, but this just rubbed me the wrong way. They can't even wait until the game is out before they're trying to sell you something that should have been on the disc in the first place? To me that is in bad taste and ridiculous, and I think if they keep going in this direction there will be a backlash against these greedy game companies. I want to play that game, but I guarantee I will only buy it used, so they don't get a penny of my money.

I saw this at the mall while in Gamestop last night. All of the ones I saw were offering a buttload of Microsoft points with the purchase, so I'm going to guess that's how they're reeling some people in. I would imagine the other thing that would reel folks in is the ease of installing from the CD rather than waiting for it to download. I'm impatient, but not $45 worth of impatient.

I agree with you though. The entire concept didn't sit right with me either.

I'm pretty sure what they were selling for AC3 were just voucher codes for the dlc. (this was for PS3) I think DLC is ok if it is something that genuinely adds to or extends the life of a game, but when they are selling it day one, or even before the game comes out, obviously they could have included it on the disc and are just being greedy.

Call me old fashioned, but I think DLC should be reserved for things that used to be called expansion packs...

Like Shivering Isles as opposed to horse armor (:p) [Yeah, I get they are/were at different price points, but still.]

As far as DLC right after launch, I'm not diggin' that at all! And don't get me started on The Sims 3..... >:(
