Help Do any of the battery saving apps actually work?

I've rarely come across one that works. However, Greenify has a pretty good rating on the Play Store and a number of people on here recommend it (root is needed though).

I'm currently trying something called Amplify, but after a week or so of use, I'm not noticing any difference in battery life.

Stuff like DU Battery Saver and Clean Master are nonsense and totally snake oil and are best avoided.

What do you mean by snake oil?

Just stay away from those apps for as long as you live but if you're totally desperate to at least squeeze more battery and doesn't mind how simple look for your phone then you can try changing your launcher to Nano Launcher it actually have a pretty neat app drawer and most use and recent app page. I don't really know how much it saves on phones with smaller battery but on my phone that packs a 4000mah battery I notice at least an average of one and a half hour of extra Screen-on Time compared to my setup on Nova Launcher(ten hours of SOT on Nano and a little over eight hours on Nova) I switch on this two launchers a lot so I'm confident on the difference.

Its also noteworthy that Nano doesn't have that much permission compared to other popular launchers like go and apus.

If the battery-saving app can explain how it's saving battery and essentially automates something you can do yourself, it may be legit.

I used to recommend Juice Defender, because it basically just automated turning off data when your screen was off and then turning mobile data back on when your screen was on. Unfortunately, that's abandonware and not really updated, so I don't know if it still works for later Android versions.

Just remember, no battery savers save power while the phone is in use, other than something like dimming the screen. They mostly work by shutting down or reducing processes and services when they are not needed. Greenify is the only thing I would bother with and I don't even have it installed. Juice Defender always had some basic flaws which, from what I heard is partly what led to it's demise.

With Doze now included in Marshmallow 6.0 all the arguments over battery savers are kinda out the window now anyway.
