For the last week or so this image has appeared when I use the Email app included on my Samsung Galaxy S4 running Android 4.4

Perhaps coincidentally I've had an attack via Android Play & directly on my checking account. Money was payed out (although I'll get it back).

1) Is this situation linked to a cell phone virus?

2) I planning on resetting my phone, but could something infectious remain on my SD card which will reinfect my phone? If so how do I get the SD card "clean?"

3) Is there a well-regarded anti-virus app that would have prevented this from happening?

Thanks for any help.

Where does this image appear? I did a Google image search on it and found a number of references, all in one particular Samsung Galaxy blog, and on the basis of what I found there I wonder whether it's connected with Samsung's "smart scroll" feature? Please check that setting before panicking about an infection, because I think it's quite possible that you've just enabled a feature of the phone's software.

Some general comments though:

Technically there are no Android viruses. There is malware, but it relies on you being tricked into installing it (whereas a virus can propagate itself). A small distinction if you are infected, but an important one if you are not.

However, if your Google account has been compromised they could gain access to your phone. So the most important thing is to change your password, and use the opportunity to enable two-factor authentication. I'm hoping you've done that already.
