Do i need a new screen?

Mo Ali

Lurker
Dropped my Galaxy S3 :(
has a few cracks at the top but nothing major, phone turns on, can hear sound and the LED light turns blue.
But the screen doesn't light up. Do i need a new LCD or a digitizer?
Thanks

Can't tell about the digitiser unless you can tell whether it responds to touch.

If the screen won't come on at all that suggests that something has either broken or become disconnected. Without opening it up I don't think we can say any more.

If the touch screen doesn't work does that mean the LCD means replacing? Because I'm pretty sure that its not responding to touch either.

If the touchscreen doesn't respond it means the digitiser isn't working - again, this could mean that the digitiser is broken or that the connection to the motherboard is broken or disconnected.

In some phones you can replace the digitiser and the display separately, in some they are bonded together. I don't know which is the case with the S3, though older phones are more likely to have them separate.

The digitizer and display are bonded together in the S3. It is possible to replace the outer glass only but that's not the problem in this case anyway.

There are videos on YouTube that show how to replace the display. It doesn't look easy.
