Help Do i need to solder?

MhikeiMPC

Lurker
I have a SGS3 I747M Rogers and I broke my Sim card slot. It all happend when I got an iPhone. I got an iPhone 5. I had my micro Sim it had a thing around it that turns it into a micro Sim card it came with the Sim card, and I took it off because the ip5 need nano Sim. I lost the thing that turns nano into micro. I realized that the iPhone data was not turning to LTE. So they data wasn't working. So I needed to put that Sim in my s3. I tried to put it in without the Sim thing, and I broke the slot. So I'm getting a new Sim part, do I need to solder? (I don't know how to) I don't think I do, because its PnP, but just to make sure.

Yeh, I think you definitely need to solder a surface mounted component, to replace a SIM holder. In the factory it was probably done with an automated hot-air or wave solder machine. Have a look at ifixit.com

No I mean I would want to replace the whole thing. The whole SD and Sim slot. Not just the Sim slot. Here's what I mean:

I want to replace the whole thing. I also ordered a screwdriver so I can open the phone.

That's not soldered, a complete module, it's just fastened with screws and a press-on connector. Be careful with the pigtail and connector though, it is rather fragile. And when you do disassemble it, do make a note of where the various sized screws go. I don't think anything you need to do is glued with an S3, so should be OK there.

Good luck with the repair! :)

FINALLY THE PART CAME.. but, i mightve not need another sin slot. I finished the repair, i inserted my sim, and its saying thesim isnt inserted. So it might be a problem with the sim. I have the iphone, and i insertes it into the iphone, and it w
just said "Searching..." And it showed that and it didnt show anything else. so i will get a test sim card first (distribu-sim) so i can see if that sim works, and then i will get a brand new sim
