Do Tmobile phones support 3g in the UK?

Not sure on a specific phone, but a friend of mine is going to the UK for about 4 months (we live in USA) and would like to get 3G there. I know AT&T phones only would get EDGE, but I was wondering if Tmobile phones would get 3G there. (I think the bands are similar)

I believe its the opposite. Att phones would get 3g and T-Mobile would get Edge since T-Mobile is the network that uses 3G bands that are incompatible with the bands of most other GSM networks around the world.
