Do You Bank With Your PHONE? Interesting Information Within..

its funny u bring this up i was thinking about it yesterday when at the bank waiting in line & seen the large ads for banking via mobile apps .... do market apps that have certain access to areas of phone have capability of pulling info ? basically can an app be something seeming so innocent as a wallpaper or perhaps an sms app that can ransack your info to that effect ?

Yes. Absolutely. But that's why you read comments on the app and what resources it needs.

Just like the article, all it takes it common sense. There is nothing groundbreaking about it.

yea .. valid point .......... i know many ppl that are so used to getting that warning about what certain dl'd app has access to just b4 its installed & just non chalantly allow it without even reading what it may be able to access

Yup. Even I'm guilty of that at times. That's the problem, though, no application (security or otherwise) will ever stop the fallible human. If I do something to my machine that renders it vulnerable however, well, that's all on me and it's time to change bank accounts and kick my own ass for being stupid.

Just like getting pregnant, all it takes is once.

Nothing to do with the Epic (specifically)....

I agree. That said, it seems that most apps have access to lots of stuff. My first reaction to this was when I got my Zio and noticed that most of the apps I downloaded had lots of access and exerted lots of control over the hardware.

The Droid seems to be telling us that it is ok to allow the phone and some developer we do not know to have access, yet in the PC world, any program that had that much control would never make, it because users are scared of hackers, and spyware, and bots, and the like.

no no no no. It's not the app that hackers have to get through it's the bank's security and they spend billions of dollars on their security. If mobile banking wasn't safe the bank wouldn't have an app for it.

I use mobile banking thru the BOA app. Never had a problem, and makes my life all that much easier and better. Talked to a rep inside BOA if fraud happens on my account whether over a phone, comp or whatever they will cover it, knock on wood it doesnt happen but just good to know
