Is it possible to store .doc, .xls or .pdf files on either the internal storage or the SD card and view them? I have copied files to both the internal and SD card but can't figure out how to access them or for that matter even where they are. I would prefer not to have them in cloud storage.

Easiest way for me to find, copy, move or generally mess with files is to install a file manager. File Explorer is my favorite but there are several other good ones such as ES File Explorer and Astro.

I think it scans storage for compatible files, but if it doesn't, a file browser like Xplore should allow you to browse your storage and view them from there.

Yes, perfectly possible to view using an appropriate app. Your device may have one already installed but you will need to locate the files you have transferred and tap on them. You should then be offered options as to which app to open them with. You will however need to find them and a file manager can help
