Does Android give pop up notifications?

Does anyone know if Android devices will give pop-up notifications when someone comments on your facebook or when your losing a bid on ebay ect...my iPhone pops up those notifications when they are posted ect...was wondering if this is possible with Android...

If you have a program running to track these things, then it can pop up notifications.

Notifications work differently on Android than iOS.

They are all placed neatly into the top toolbar, so you can quickly 'slide' it down and click the appropriate notification to get right to wherever it came from (instead of having to find the app and launch it).

Android has only recently started providing push notifications. So not many apps support it at the moment (including Facebook). Hopefully developers will start using it soon.
