Does Android have a Wifi enabled VOIP program?

Howdy,

My main question before I buy a G1 is does Android have a Wifi enabled VOIP program (like Skype)?

Also, can I link it directly to a PC and throw any data I want inside it (linux programs).

Oh one more thing, can it compile C code?

Thanks,
Will

Yes... go to the market and do a search program is called ISkoot made specifically for Skpe...

As far as linux I could be wrong but no. c code I will throw a no at that one too. And I think I read somewhere else on this forum that iskoot uses your minutes and edge or 3g to connect to a skype server not over wifi and it still uses your minutes.

There is an app called WeFi (for Android), which automatically locates WiFi on the fly, as opposed to having to actvate and look for one.

The BIG question however; is do you have WiFi !! And is it WiFi Alliance approved !
You have to look past the "doers of no evil" Google; and to the real authors behind Android. The "Open Handset Alliance", which are telcos and there suppliers, most notably "Motorola'; Doers of all evil !

Since the app is there, so must be WiFi, But not in all Androids ! I am not sure if the hardware is there, and being a telco, they have opted to block you from using it. Or wheather that telco is actually getting them made without the hardware.

I can't believe the number of people who don't understand how much money they will save with a WiFi phone; or how much better the bandwidth is (download speed) in some places.

Just say "Show me the WiFi !" No WiFi = No Contract

I am going good with sipdroid over wifi. I use both gizmo5 and tpad as my sip prividers and I am calling the usa from vietnam for 2 cents a minute. It works!

It's called sipdroid :)

There is a terminal prog to ax. the linux part - You might need to "root" the phone before depending on your carrier.

There is a free Android SDK for download - should bee able to handle most ;)

2 cents a minute is the medium price. Both Gismo5 and Tpad charge that. The really cheap ones are 1 cents a min but I can not get them to work...Yet.
Gizmo5 I think is the best as they have free numbers and an echo number to test it all plus they gave me 10 cents freeto try a call. I use Tpad as my backup is case Gizmo5 ever goes down or call quality goes bad. Tpad works over EDGE for me here in Vietnam with port 8891 and Gizmo will not. I am in Vietnam. Depends where you are I guess.
