does compass mode work for you?

I try and show off my sweet phone with compass mode sometimes.. and it doens't really work right.. when I mmove the phone up and down the street view moves up and down like its supposed to.. but when I turn the phone to the left or right, it doesn't realliy shift the viewpoint... could my compass be broken?

Yeah it could be that one or two axes of your magnetometer are dead.

It worked flawlessly for me when I used a demo model in the T-Mobile store. It did a really, really great and smooth job. And that's with all the abuse that those demo models get.
Maybe your magnetometer is dead after all

For me it works great sometimes, sometimes it doesn't and it does exactly what he was saying... I have 2 G1's, both do the same, and the model one in the T-Mobile store also did it....

Works perfect, but sometimes... some maps do, some doesn't, I don't really know how to recreate the problem.

No, it's the same Maps App included in the phone.

If you press the menu key, change map type to Street View, then press menu and put the Compass Mode On, you can use Street View Maps and see everything by just moving the phone with your hand, as if you were in the actual place.

I had no problem using the compass mode, It worked flawlessly for me. Lol, it's nice to show it off. I had my brother amazed by it.
