Apps Does Google+ Help My App's Rank in Google Play?

I've recently uploaded my app to Google Play and am trying to figure out new ways to increase its visibility in the Google Play store.

A few people have mentioned that having a Google Plus account goes a long way in increasing rank, but I haven't found any concrete evidence to support this. I'm guessing the most obvious benefit is additional link building, but is there another reason to have an account.

I've never used Google Plus before and would only want to add another social media account to manage if it really made a difference.
