Does HTC ever do unlocked cdma + gsm ?

windplr

Newbie
Really wanting an unlocked version that does CDMA + GSM. I noticed that both the developer and unlocked are GSM only. Wondering if anyone knows if HTC ever does an unlocked combo phone?

Not just HTC, but I think just about all CDMA version phones have carrier specific branding and customizations, Verizon, Sprint, Bell, China Telecom, etc. Apple iPhone might be the exception.

I was gonna say the NEXUS 6 is the only device that comes to mind, albeit not an HTC phone.
Were you looking for a dual-SIM phone,or,one to where you had more carrier freedom?
AFAIK,in the U.S.,the NEXUS 6 is about the only phone that comes to mind that'll work on virtually any U.S. carrier.

Just remembered there was a post last week about a CDMA version M8 for China Telecom. Turned out this phone was completely useless in the US, where the poster was, and nothing really could be done about it.

Wait was that the one where he had the dual sim M8d, wanted to use it in the US and I misread his request as wanting CDMA, which he did not, or another one?? The M8d has no trouble coming over here but if Chinese it needs to be rommed to work without the Chinese restrictions.

Owners of the Verizon M8 models (can't say M8s for plural anymore because that's a new model coming) have been told by Verizon that the GSM side is unlocked and several have posted that they've put in AT&T sims and gotten along just fine, while others have had some trouble with that. So there is some trick to that. No idea about the Sprint models.

(The OP is posting from the US.)

I'm just looking for as much flexibility as possible in an unlocked phone. I'm currently a Verizon subscriber, but travel internationally and would like to be able to use the same phone with a GSM carrier. Iphone is the only one I know of that can do that. But I'm an Android guy and I may even switch carriers and get the unlocked M9.

That link is definitely going in the FAQ. Heck that link should go in all FAQ's on the site. I will update the FAQ template to include it so it is always in every device FAQ from this point forward. Great find Kolio!

I can't take any credit for that at all,it's been floating around here for a little while now.
I think I came across it from someone in the T-Mobile forum who's well versed in the bands/frequencies/etc....

Well you found it for us here, and that is a very important link to add to the FAQ. Already updated the FAQ template and the M9 FAQ. Links usually do little good floating around, hidden in posts. Something like this needs to be easy to find, it's a common question people ask themselves all the time. -Will my XXX device work with YYY?

It also looks like the Nexus 6 1103 does GSM and CDMA here in North Amerika.

Kolio - thanks so much for the link to the device checker site. What a great resource!
