Does installing a launcher require more processing power?

Hi,

I'm planning on getting an HTC Vivid. (i really love the 4.5 S-LCD screen) :D

I'm currently using a Samsung Fascinate with CM7 that has the ADW launcher.

When i get the Vivid i want to install ADW launcher because i really like it. but i was curious as to how launchers work.

Does the launcher work on top of Sense, putting even more of a burdon on ram and the processor? or does the ADW launcher replace Sense altogether ?

in other words, is it (Android/Sense/ADW launcher) or (Android/ADW launcher) ?

thanks !

I had a similar question and the answer seems to be it will be more like Android/ADW/Sense. ADW launcher will replace Sense launcher but Sense will still kinda hang around in the background. But, if you disable the Sense widgets from the Sense launcher any power impact is minimal.

Since you are familiar with rooting, you can also just root then remove the sense launcher. I would recomend just removing the sense rom altogether, and go with an aosp rom. It will be lighter, and faster. On my Inspire, with a sense rom my quadrant scores range in the 1500 range, and with CM7 I get 2300+.

Edit: the sense launcher will stay on the phone if you just download adw. You will get a prompt upon pushing the home button that asks weather you would like to use sense or adw, with an option to assign a default.

I don't use any launcher. But whenever I want to know how much power an app uses, I run "Power Tutor" which can show you how much power each app uses. It helps me to choose the lower power app.
