Does porting to VM cancel previous carrier?

I ported two ATT numbers over to Virgin Mobile and the Optimus V phones the day after my contract with ATT was up. I was just wondering if this effectively cancelled my ATT service. I know the ATT phones quit working shortly after talking to the VM rep and I can no longer access my ATT web site account. I assumed that would cancel everything for me but you know about assuming. Anyone ever have problems with bills from previous carriers after porting a number to VM?

Yes, the port process disconnects your ATT account and creates a final bill. If you want to be double-dog sure that you old account is closed, call ATT customer service. Since two lines are involved, specifically ask them if both lines are on the same account and ask them to verify that the account has been disconnected. If the lines are on two separate accounts, ask them to verify that each one is disconnected.

The port-out notification that ATT received from VM serves as your notice to ATT to end charges. If there is some kind of screw up, you aren't liable for any charges past the date that the porting took place.

If you are a post-paid customer, you'll get one more ATT bill you need to pay (most likely pro-rated for a partial month's service) and after you pay it, you'll get a final bill showing you paid and owe zero.
