Does size matter?

I thought I'd open this up to everyone. Does size matter sound-wise when it comes to earbuds?

Back when I first tried them last century they came in one size fits all. Each manufacturer had their ideal size and that was your only option. Recently I purchased some earbuds with replaceable cushions in different sizes. I've noticed that the bigger the cushions the deeper the Bass. Is there any scientific evidence to support that, or am I just imagining things?
