Help Does the LG Volt 4G LTE save gifs?

Save gifs? You mean animated gifs, like little short videos from the camera, for posting on message boards etc,? Not sure if that particular phone does that, but there's plenty of third-party camera apps you can install that will do that.
The camera itself usually saves photos as jpg, some phones can do raw as well, png is normally used for screen-shots, animated gif is for short animations/very brief looped videos, if the camera app supports that. Static gif is basically obsolete, originally invented for Compuserve and 256 colour VGA displays
