Does your S7 get warm?

Just curious if this happens to others. Mine sometimes gets warm even when I'm doing basic stuff like web browsing.

Yesterday there was a software update and during that process it got very hot. Like almost burning hot.

Is this partly because it's made of metal?

I know it's hard to describe what "warm" or "hot" means, but generally speaking, when holding the phone, can you feel any warmth at all?

Yes its quite normal when the CPU is under high load, which is what it is when a software update installs. Stop worrying lol

Phones with metal frame usually feel hotter when under high CPU load. I think it's normal.

And call me crazy, but it mainly seems to be the right side (the side with the power button) that frequently gets hot. Does that make any sense?

If you take a look at this teardown of a S7, steps 17 and 18, you'll see the pics of the heat pipe running along the power button side inside:

Also note the shape of the motherboard places it in that side of your phone. In a common computer, there are several fans that are necessary to continuously move air to help transfer heat created by the processor and other components from essentially cooking themselves to death. In our phones, there are no ventilation grills, no fans, and everything is tightly packed together to fit into a space as small as practically possible. The heat created by the CPU and GPU still have to be dissipated in some way, typically by transferring as much heat as possible into the outer case of the phone so it'll dissipate into the surrounding air, or as you've noticed, into your hand.

S7 Edge one month later. The first charge it got overheating in fast charging mode.
And after 30 mins video play,it got warm. But all this improved since the early Nov firmware upgrade.
Now I'm pretty satisfied with it.
