I haven't had problems with mkv files encoded in AC3 sound with any of my android devices. The problem I have is with mkv files with DTS soundtracks. It isn't a supported format in android. I use a program called HandBrake for those mkv's with DTS soundtracks to re-encode the file with AC3 6 Channel Discrete.

I don't have the Android device you refer to, but use mkv(H264,AC3) encoded videos and they play back fine.

I too use Handbrake and other programs to change video formats.

I also played vob files with 5.1 sound tracks on my Android systems and they play fine with downmixed audio.

I use MX Player Pro and BSPlayer on my Android systems which both identify 6 channel audio.

The problem is that most Android HDMI implementations only output a downmixed 2 channel audio stream.

I've played the same videos(mkv encoded H264 and AC3) via HDMI on my Alienware notebook and it outputs the full 5.1 sound track.
