The "emergency" is that he wasn't getting his way. And as a child of privilege who has spent a lifetime getting his way this was a genuine emergency for him.
Everything else is BS and bluster. And doubtless many programmes which would make a more positive difference to people's lives will be defunded in the service of his ego.

Well by this being moved to a thread that you think where it should be, depends on where you stand because if it's a political stance against War on Drugs I would assume that it was in the right place from the beginning but if you differ I guess that's up to the eye of the beholders.
Just for clarification, the topic of the President declaring an emergency is both highly political and contemporary, so it belongs in Politics and Current Affairs. This has nothing to do with my opinions, or political and / or ideological leaning and wholly to do with keeping the forum organized.

1st and foremost... STUPID!!!
2nd: Congress controls the budget.. part of checks and balance.
this is an overstep.. overreach of president powers.!!!
3rd: NOT a real emergency!!! yes, there are issues at the border.
Drugs are getting in. but this stuff will always find a way to come in. Demand is too high!
4th: This is just him trying to deflect from the Muller investigation!
5th: he was angry and feelings hurt.. that the budget vote yesterday, there was enough in both sides of Congress to make it veto proof!
his input was not important!
6th: House Dem will do an emergency vote.. this will trigger an automatic emergency vote in Senate.
High probability that there is enough votes to stop 45 on this STUPID move on both sides of Congress.
7th: Billions... there are much better places to spend that money on: infrastructure
Real emergencies.. Global warming; education; healthcare
