Don't understand Verizon's changes

I wouldn't be bothering you but I had a stroke last August and I have serious problems understanding the less than simple stuff. Feel free to poke a little fun it keeps me from being upset about the way things are.
I have 5 phones on my plan:
Droid X (mine)
LG Env3 (wife)
LG Cosmos (used by my 3 kids as needed)
and 2 older basic LG phones for my wife's elderly uncle and parents ( basically I have a family share plan with 5 phones). My contract is up in July, and we are all eligible right for now for new cell phones with the discounted price. I pay that stupid $29.99 fee for smartphones w/ unlimited data, and now my wife realizes she needs a smart phone and wants the ihone 5 when it comes out in September or whenever. Our oldest son is starting HS in the fall and w want to get him his own line but the max on family share is 5 so I will have to kick her parents or uncle off the plan. Tanks to my 10 yr old daughter I am stuck paying that extra fee for unlimited texting. We have a 700 minute plan and never go over it. What should I do, and how screwed am I going to be with the new plans at the end of the month? We don't use the Internet much on my Droid X, just Google maps and o find a restaurant, movie times, trivia, etc.
Sorry to have to bother you, I was a totally different man a year ago.
Tank you for any help you can give

Welcome to the forum!

With the new plans, you won't actually have to kick anyone off as you are now allowed up to 10 lines.

With all the lines you will get unlimited talk and text, but the smartphones you will have to pick a data package to share.

So if I am understanding you correctly you will have 2 smartphones (You and wife) and 4 regular phones (son, uncle, parents and other kids). Correct?

If that is the case then you will have the smart phones at $40 a piece and the dumbphones at $30 a piece. If you aren't using that much data then you both may be able to get by with a shared 2GB which would be $60. So it will end up like this:

Smartphone - $40
Smartphone - $40
Dumbphone - $30
Dumbphone - $30
Dumbphone - $30
Dumbphone - $30
2GB of Data - $60

Total = $260 + taxes and fees

If I'm understanding your current plan correctly this would be an increase of about $100 a month from what you currently have at $160. With the current pricing it would only be an additional $30 and dropping someone off the plan.

They will be offering basic plans, but you would have to drop the smartphones for that to work. You could still have unlimited talk and text with all six phones though. Then you would still be at $70 + $30 + $30 + $30 + $30 + $30 = $220 for all six phones.

In the end, I think it is time to start looking for new service. If they actually go through with this pricing model you are going to be paying a whole lot more for phone service.

Thank you for the explanation and the link. I get a 19% discount because of work so right now I pay about 195 with taxes. Fo me to change a phone to a smartphone would raise my bill another $30 before even adding another phone.
I'll look at other companies but my brother has tried others and says that most people switch back to Verizon- so I'm a little confused as to which carrier to switch to without being unhappy.
