Android Question

I was on my phone last week (Nexus 5 ) and I wanted to search a few things. I don't normally do this on my phone, I do it at home where it is more convenient.
I searched something on my phone and wanted to open another tab to search a competitor.
On a laptop, you just right click on the tab and hit duplicate and voila, a new window opens. I never tried this on my Nexus but I never figure it out.
I did not want to leave the window I was at, I wanted to go back and forth between windows to compare information.
Is this possible or what was I doing wrong?
Thanks,
Raymond
