Now i went thru all this effort to even keep my original grandfathered plan because i could give dang about mins. All i want is the data. I was lured in with initial thought vm was a different type of no contract phone. A phone and company that focused on the few of us who loved to texting and web browsing til our hearts content. But once again i was let down and its on to the next one. I mean why should i get on wifi everytime i wana do something ? Thats not why i pay to have a mobile phone with its on data connection. And its not that im a over user, its just my job and college could care less if my phones out so i tend to use more. Now if they started makin seperate plans for data i might stay. But until then its probly better if i sell my triumph, ov, wildfire. Should be enough to get me a high end tmobile phone ? Should i make the switch or wait......

2.5 GB pre-throttle seems to actually take effort to achieve, personally.

Oh i was just a little upset. Have 3g watch dog & zd box n i synced up my data usage perfectly but sumhow every two or three days when i check my account its off by about 200mb. Its weird but yeah even when you know somethings coming adjusting is still hard.

i don't get it. i'm probably younger than brotherswing, but i'm in the same school of thought on this - i lived off of rotating free NetZero and Juno 56k dialup for YEARS when everyone else had cable or DSL. That was a hassle, but i did what i had to do.

Anyways, what i popped in to say is: throttling isn't capping. We still have unlimited data. What's the fuss ? It's CHEAP. It's a GREAT DEAL. HOW IS IT BAD ?!?!?! As for the price hike, all i can say is i wished i was with VM before the increase. But it's still a great deal, so... why would i be mad at them ? They didn't turn a good deal into a bad one, but rather a mind-bendingly great deal into a great deal.

programs typically use a floppy disk icon for "Save..." (assuming an icon is used, of course) Floppies are now obsolete, replaced mostly by flash drives (for portable storage, that is). Will the icon ever be changed ? Will our children's children look at the floppy icon and think "wtf is that ?" *sigh* ... such a nerd....

Service is descent. Its bad for those of us who commute from la to arkansas once a week and would like to enjoy a few hours of online games or netflix or hbo go or stream any type of service lol. Not that thats necessary but 1x is not guna cut it lol. i got the triumph specificly for those reasons.

Bottom line is VM is the best deal around, the phones are not too bad and the connection here in California is pretty much the same of the more costly companies.

Well T-mo does have a $30 plan that gets you 5gb of 4g, unlimited texting, and 100 minutes for talking, and you can use ANY gsm phone on it (only phones that have the 1700/2100 bands can get 4g though). So yea I do think that there are better plans than VMs...

It's $5 cheaper, sure, but 100 minutes isn't enough for a lot of folks, even for me - having basically zero outgoing phone calls and very few inbound. Coverage isn't the same, and VM's coverage will be better for some folks. I'm not trying to dismiss t-mobile's deal, just sayin' there is a tradeoff for that $5 difference. VM's deal is still great, anyone who says otherwise isn't right in the head, IMO. There may be one or two [very slightly] better deals for a particular person, but everyone's situations and needs are different - Neither VM nor TMO nor Boost or whatever else can, or should be all things to all people.

Valid points, I agree that the deal is a good deal... When you are in a good service area. I guess the same thing goes for T-mo it's a good plan if you are in a good service area. And 100 minutes for some people may not be enough, yet for some people it is way more than enough. Me personally use on average like 50-100 mins a month mostly just for talking to my mom.

And I did make the switch to T-mo mainly for the reason that where I am my signal was horrible and I get a near perfect signal with T-mo. Granted I am spending more than I was on VM, but I can afford it and it is worth it IMO because I get unlimited everything (first 5gb of data at 4g speeds), can use any GSM phone, and get a near perfect signal. But I digress, for each person different circumstances are going to determine what they want. VM was nice for me for the almost 2 years I had it, but after I got a perm job I wanted change... So I moved to T-mo.

Not trying to dis VM in any way because I understand some people's situations and such and they are a good company with decent customer service and seem to be getting better, but to each their own. Anyways that's just my view on things.

Well for those who say the 2.5 GB is hard to obtain in a month, the first month the guideline took place, my plan started on the second and i got the text on the seventh saying i hit my 2.5 GB limit and i'd be throttled for the rest of the month unless i renewed my plan. personally i think the whole only throttling only during times when the tower is under high usage is more realistic that a complete throttle, especially since i live in a smaller town where the Sprint Tower might not peak out much since AT&T and Verizon are way more common, but i don't work at VMUSA so they could probably couldn't care less with my $55 a month. This is my thought, if i can use unlimited throttled data it saves me from paying the cable company since i need to have a cell phone and personally i haven't seen much difference in download speeds until it gets to the point of streaming vids which honestly i've always had a problem streaming vids and i know people on Verizon Towers that have just as bad of a time. I guess my view is, i chose to Root my phone and use the tethering ability which means i'm pretty much not using the product how it was intended, so if you chose that, be happy they are just throttling the data and not just disconnecting your phone for hacking it.

that is certainly NOT worth saving $5 for

So for me, there's no question - VM is the better deal. Nothing wrong with hopping to T-Mo if VM's coverage sucks and T-Mo's is better in your area, assuming their minute-count is sufficient.

disclaimer: it's been a while since i had t-mo (2yr?) so things may have changed, although i don't hear good things from others in my area.

Lots of good points. Well I get great service from all carrier's in my area but in short this topic is no longer valid for me seeing as how I went over 3days ago, received the. "You've used 2.5GB so your data speeds will be reduced until your next month starts on 04/17/2012. If you'd rather restart your plan today, click My Account." text my data hasn't dropped or slowed so I guess I'll live. thanks for the feedback.

You're on a month to month contract, if you don't like the service, change to another company (and get the same cap for a lot more $).
