In a new update to Google Search (3.5.14), users will now be able to activate the “OK Google” hotword detection from anywhere within the OS (even the lockscreen) or even while the screen is off, providing your phone is charging. Not enabled by default, we gave you the spiel earlier today. You’ll first need to […]

Google has done it again, they have made yet another amazing update to the Android Operating System and it's Software. I will have to try this later today :-)

Finally! Google innovates. Now just expand the voice commands. Still cannot toggle WiFi or Bluetooth by voice.

it works, but it also works bit too well. (i never needed the new Play Services update, it worked just from the search APK)

Problem is, if i have it enabled on my phone, and try using it on my Nexus 10, it triggers both the tablet and the phone at the same time. seems the phone wakes up if it hears the same command even if the screen is off, although this is said to only happen on the charger, it also happened with it in my pocket when i wanted to use it on my 10. a bit annoying, seeing as i have to disable the feature on every other device in the same room or they all wake up to it. I don't mind it working from the lock screen, but with the screen off this becomes a problem as the OK Google trigger seems to be heard by every device at once, so they all simultaneously wake up.

I hope they verbally demonstrate this command in TV commercials after a bunch of people already have it set up.

Indeed :-)

I'm not impressed at all and have it disabled completely even before the update. For some reason - probably the language flavour - it would easily recognise the "Ok Google" bit but not the rest of what I said.

Worse, it often false-triggered (when on charge) from all sorts of stuff going on in the room. I'd hear the beeps and when I turned on the screen I'd find all sorts of junk searches on the screen.

More trouble than it's worth; not at all well thought through.

like i mentioned if you have multiple devices with this set up, they all turn on (screen off and off/on charger both) at once if you say 'OK Google' even if you intended to use one device in your hand. it's either a glitch (it's not supposed to do that if the screen is off and the device is not charging) that will be fixed or it's that sensitive.

My update yesterday was 3.5.15.blah. It updated, but nothing changed. Then I cleared google search's cache and data (which reset my homescreens:mad:) and it was available. I trained it with my speech and left it alone. Later in the evening I plugged my phone in and decided to try out the screen off responsiveness and bupkis. I went to look at the google settings and once again, the options were gone. Is anyone else noticing this? Any word on the dealio? Was this all a big tease? Looks like others are dealing with it in comments on other stories...
