downloaded video to phone not playing

Help anyone, video's that I download to android app Huawei will not play.
Receive error message: "cannot play video" "sorry this video cannot be played".
Downloaded video to phone is in mp4 format.
Also converted flv, mpeg, and Avi files to mp4 with file conversion software.
However, files still will not play.
Any suggestions as to how video's will play on this phone?

firmware 2.1 update 1

MP4 is just a container. What codec are the files in? What resolution?
