Help Droid 2 ?'s

Hi folks. Am fairly new to this smartphone thing and recently purchased a factoey re-manufactured Droid 2. Love the phone but I have a couple of questions I hope someone can help with.

First off, on, what I call the command line, which is where Menu, Home, Back and search is, I cannot get the light to stay on for more than a couple of seconds. The symbols will light for several seconds and then go out. Without my glasses if I am in a dimly lit area, this is a pain. Is there any setting to make the symbols stay lit longer?

Secondly, I ordered a higher amphour battery and back for my Droid 2, 2300 to be exact. It came factory packaged and states it is specifically for the Motorla A955. However, when I put it in and plugged the charger in, the phone showe the battery symbol with a "?" in the middle and when I turned the phone on it said it did not recognize the battery and to replace it with an original. Did I just blow 23 bucks for nothing, or is there some way of getting the battery to work in this phone. Thanx for any help. Anxiously awaiting some info for these, to me, annoyances.
