Droid Eris ota update help

New to the Eris. Used blackberry for some time. Have heard a lot of talk of problems with contacts and widgets. Wife had similar problems. Was wondering if I could remove or swap my sd card before update to help with this?

The SD card really won't make a difference. The only things that are touched is the phone memory. However, when you update to 2.1, I highly recommend doing a factory reset. Trust me, it may suck at first to lose your apps and stuff, but it will save you a lot of headaches later because of random bugs.
