Droid eris theme

Hey guys, im a new droid eris user and this is my first post on an android forum. I'd like to put a new theme on my droid but i have a couple questions. I saw some cool themes that work with openhome...is openhome the application that i should buy or are there better ones? Also, in order to use openhome does my phone have to be rooted? If so, how dangerous is it to root the phone? Basicly i'm looking for the safest way way to put a cool theme on my phone. Help me out android gurus!

Open Home is one of many, You also have A Home, DxTop, GDE among others, they can all be skinned. Only way to know the best fit, is what works best for you. I've used and enjoyed DxTop the most, others will swear by GDE. You have 24 hours to uninstall an app after it's purchase for a refund, so if you find one and it doesn't work for you, you still have options. As far as I know there still is no Root for the Eris. None of the apps I've mentioned above require root anyway so you should be all good. Hope this helped!

Edit: I forgot to mention Panda Home is an option too and it's free, so it may not be a bad idea to start there.

I installed pandahome and ended up having to wipe my phone because of excessive force closes so now im running openhome which seems pretty stable although i dont really know how to customize it yet. Id like to be able to replace individual icons and also i read that you can switch out the search button on the side for another dock bar...idk
